Well folks, I finally got around to putting the light on the boat. Initial timing was at 12* BTDC (I had played around with it a bit "by ear"), I used the new gun to set it to 0. Checked full advance to be 32. Dwell angle was 32* already, so I guess that old school tune up analyzer for v8's I was using did the trick.
I am going to take the boat out tonight and see how it performs.

Last time it was out, I had an issue. Not really sure what it is yet, could have been water in fuel, electrical problem or tank venting. I have noticed after running on plane for a while it will lose power and sputter a tad. This last time it was really struggling, so to see if it was electrical I put the blower on. Then it really died.
So I brought it in to the shop to check everthing over. It started right up here at the shop. I will admit I was too lazy to look in the float bowl for water, but I did check the fuel filter. Seems okay.
So out we go tonight, with a slight change in ignition timing, freshly cleaned electrical contacts and - just for fun I keep a spare ignition coil in the boat so I put that on too.
I suppose we will see how she goes.

P.s. The new light is wicked good.
