can you find out who sent it before you sign for it at the post office? I guess they tried to deliver this piece of mail 3 times and i work 10 hour shifts and if i dont pick it up tomorrow at post office it will return to sender. I want to know can i see the letter before I sign for it? If its from someone in particular i want it to be returned to them. I dont owe them money or nothing like that just a long story that I really dont want to be involved with. I just dont want to give that person the satisfaction of knowing that I read what ever crap they sent me! I have the little card that has the post office info but no clues there cause it is written from the letter carrier. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

You can go to the post office and ask ......... then refuse it.

I believe the thing you have to sign has the sender's info on it? See it, then don't sign it & refuse the piece.

The peach colored card that they left in your mail box should have the zip code on it from where it was sent. Also it will have the tracking number on it. You can track it at www.usps.com and click on track and confirm and see what office that it was mailed at.

most clerks will show you the letter as long as you have proper identifcation with you

Correct. You won't be able to see the actual letter, and you won't be allowed to touch it unless you sign for it, but the receipt you sign says who sent it. Keep in mind the sender is allowed to fill in anything they want in that box, but most will put their actual name there.

Normally the notification will have the zip code on it, if it is from someone I don't want to deal with, I will sign for it and write return to sender on it and hand it back to the clerk, of course I live in a small town where I know everybody at the PO. Now remember, just because you accept the letter, does not mean you are admitting anything, only that it was delivered to you.

Another thing to remember the act of refusing the letter does not absolve you of anything if it is a legal notification, often times they will send out a process server if you refuse the letter via this method..it all depends on how serious they are in their intent to get a hold of you..
