I was told that I need to make a "chain anchor" in order to fish a local river due to bottom debris. Can someone explain to me what this is and how to make it. I was told that I need about 35lbs of chain.

Thanks, FC
Connect your anchor to a length of chain and then connect the chain to your anchor line. Bottom debris and rocks won't cut or break the chain as easily as just plain anchor line.

http://www.baychandlery.com/pics/6010b.jpg

Note the use of shackles, clevis, and other hardware to make the connections wear proof:

http://www.baychandlery.com/anchors/
Re chain attached to anchor - the chain ensures that the anchor does not lift when pressure is applied to the line. It's weight acts as a shock absorber. If bottom debris is a major problem ie fallen trees, rocks etc., you need a reef anchor that will straighten out if stuck.

Try here for info:
http://www.mrl.cofc.edu/text/Reefs.html
