Re: chainsaw buying advice

Through the years, I've had Stihl, Homelite, Poulan. I don't cut enough to offer first-hand experience. All these worked well for me, but I keep getting them stolen. I will say that a friend of mine owns a tree service - has about 5 crews. He has tried them all and always comes back to Stihl.

After 15 years with my Stihl working flawlessy every single time I grab it, the pain I may have felt in spending more than I really wanted to has been replaced by a warm glow of satisfaction in owning the best. The pain passes quickly the good feeling and the saw last forever. Good luck. ;)

Yes one more cast, the ‘ol blue EZ... it is a shame that the US won’t make a similar saw today. No plastic but super light (magnesium), compression release like Stihl, quiet and reliable. The only reason Stihl is a better saw today is because it hasn’t been cheapened down by the bean counters.

I've been using an Echo brand chainsaw. It's a 16 incher but it will work like a dog when you need it to. I do agree with Neil2Fish, that glowing feeling of knowing you own the best is a pretty good feeling. Just get the biggest cc you can proper maintenace is the key. They will wear out if you treat em like crap. Good luck

No question, STIHL...hands down. Mines now 20 years old, run like it did when brand new. Before that went through Craftsman, Poulan and Homelite saws over an 8 to 10 year period. The overwhelming concensus looks like STIHL.

If I was to buy a saw it would be a used Stihl but I have a Timber Bear by Mac and it works fine for me and starts on the first or second pull. It has lasted 15 years so far and try to kill it but it won't die! It is a heavy arsed saw though. My Brother has a small Stihl and i like it for braches and such.
