change filter in gas tank

16 ft1985 thundercraft 140 merc i o

i have changed the fuel lines, now trying to replace filter inside gas tank i broke the nut loose on the line comming out of the tank, but it wont turn only about 1 inch i am afraid to break the tank.it also has a barbed fitting on top of the nut that wont budge either. new tank is about $200.00 lol. help

There is no replaceable filter in the tank, it's just a screen glued on to the end of a tube to keep the big chunks out of the anti-siphon valve. Are you sure it's plugged?
Yes, they do get corroded in, and sometimes they break and it takes other measures to remove the parts and fix things.

thanks for the quick answer, no i am not sure its plugged, just some members of forum said i should check it . thought i may as well being i replaced the gas line already . reason was i thought lines were collapsing inside as engine bogs at high speeds, but now you say there is no filter, i will replace the gas and give it another go. thanks again

There is a screen filter but you have to clean and reuse it.
