change from vovlo to mercruiser

If this is the wrong place to post sorry. I posted earlier about a vovlo 270 drive. non trim. i have found a mercruiser setup. all parts, complete repower. the drive i've found is a late 80's alpha 1, it says 200/xp. 200/something.. what problems do you guys think i will run into other than the obvious transom rebuild. which i can find here. and how far from the bottom of the boat does the transom plate mount. I know this is a lot of work and im willing to do it. i know i don't see all the issues this will involve. some info i can give you is the boat is a byliner 1950 capri, i will run thru hull exhaust so i need to block that up somehow. can you guys give me any information about what i want to do? are these good drives? it has power tilt/trim and power steering. both of which i do not have and want. thanks in advance for all your help.

A mercruiser 5.7 it's all together. I want to remove all my Volvo parts. ALL of them and put this stuff in. As you know if I want to to trim the outdrive and let my girlfriend tow me, Volvo 270 is not going to allow that. I would have not bought it had I known what I was getting into. The Volvo drive is in working condition with no leaks. It just sux! I can buy all merc. Parts for 500. Everything but the hull. Even the dashboard with steering wheel and throttle.

And what I mean by girls can't drive it is it won't hardly steer under power. I'm a big strong guy and it wears me out after a day. Turns lie a champ until u apply throttle then it takes brute stenght to turn it it. Also can't go onto shallow water. The tilt won't hold it up once in gear. It's just lame. Look I know it can be done so I will just do it and post pics when I'm done. Thanks
