I'm thinking it would be a good time to change the impeller on my 2001 150 optimax.
It's never been done but I was wondering when I should have it done.
Is it best to do it before putting it away for winter storage or in the spring when I take it out.
Any thoughts?

Since you said "should have it done", I'm assuming that you're going to have your mechanic do it. I'd just have him do it when you have him do other work. Probably optimal is spring (vs. fall), but it's not significant. For example, if you have him winterize it in the fall, but do the spring stuff yourself, have it done in the fall. If vice versa, then vice versa. If neither or both, I'd have it done in the spring. Clear?

They can last up to 5 years. But the manual reccomends "Inspect every 100 hrs". Mine's been in there for 4 seasons with no problems. If it shows no sign of pressure reduction, just leave it.

It's best to do it in spring so it's not all curled up all winter for nothing. I think 2 seasons is enough. A new impeller is cheap insurance.

-W
