Change of winch position

I just bought a new winch for my trailer. Although it is similar to the existing winch, the dimensions are slightly different, so I had to position it higher on the post. The model that I bought is a SeaSense 1200# capacity. The engaging dog has three positions (ratchet clockwise, ratchet counter-clockwise, and free-spool). The original winch had the strap coming from the top, by raising the winch and having the strap coming from the bottom, it keeps the angle of pull almost the same.

My question is.... does it matter if the winch strap comes off the bottom or top of the spool.

I can't think of any reason why not, if the angle is better comming off the bottom than so be it.

Nope. -- It's not like toilet paper where over the spool is preferred :)
