Well the weather here in MN is going to be gorgeous this weekend. My dillemna is I changed the oil in prep for the cold winter. Will I need to change the oil again after my 1 outing on the river or will it be fine over the winter after 1 use with the boat.

Obviously I will get the water out of the block and change the lower gear lube etc but I'm specifically curious about the oil.

I wouldn't think twice about it. Hit the lake!:D

I'm already drained with hoses pulled, but I was so tempted to put her back in the water for this gorgeous weekend. The recent oil change wouldn't have slowed me down.

A few hours run time on fresh oil will not hurt a thing.
Just be sure to drain everything and keep Stabil in the fuel tank.
Go for it!

Alright. I can't wait to see how she runs with a fresh oil change. I got the bilge area cleaned up from my mess I made changing the oil and now have a proper drain hose to prevent this.

I unoficially named her Priscilla tonight as I was thinking Elvis's had a glastron and he also had a lovely lady Priscilla. My mother adored there companionship and Elvis still is just an amazing artist.

Time to go listen to Elvis and clean the boat's deck for my St. Croix river trip tomorrow. I will be heading south to Prescott roughly 40miles round trip.

Thanks Gary. This will be the last trip for 6 months but I'm not going to dwell on that. It should be a blast with the ole man. I think he likes the boat more than me which is awesome. :)

Changing the oil won't impact how the engine runs.

If you installed one of those thru the transom drain hoses, be prepared to wait a long while for the oil to drain. My takes at least an hour.

I'm too tempted to go out- supposed to be a gorgeous day, but I pulled the outdrive and put the boat away, so I probably won't bother.

Have a great outing. Nice weekend on tap.

I'm over here in New England with the same dilemma. Drive is off, engine is drained. It's going to be a beautiful day, the leaves are at their peak color and my football team is on a bye week. Oh no, I might have to work on the house, damn.
I lived in Minnesota for a few years back in the late 70's. Didn't have a boat then. I bet MN river boating is the bomb.

And here I sit, replacing my trailer's bearings and rebuilding my carburetor while it's sunny and supposed to hit 88F this afternoon.

Always pick the wrong weekends to do work. c'est la vie.....there's always next Saturday. ;)

Re: Changed oil, want to use boat and continue winterizing

I'm glad I was able to make one final run on the river in October! Great weather for MN. The river was up really high from the recent pounding of rain in the northeast and therefore was no wake the entire river. At one point I passed under a bridge in Stillwater with inches of clearance between the bridge trusses and my windshield. I saw a Bayliner cruiser beached which is a nice SHT, and I got my first safety inspection from Washington Counties finest but they let me go with a No Wake warning. (It's hard to travel 40miles in a day w/o creating a wake...but I used good discretion when I opened it up.) I had a Cesna 172 floatplane take-off right behind my wake and fly overhead, and saw multiple bald eagles.

Here are the goodies for anyone whose interested in the gorgeous fall colors of Stillwater, MN:

Holy cow. I launched at Boom Site at the end of August. The water has risen so much sense then. How far did you make it down stream? Beautiful pictures.
