changed thermostats

I have a 1985 175hp johnson. I just changed the thermostats and poppets due to water leaking out of the hole in the thermostat housing. when i opened it up only one side had a thermostat. I water tested the motor, but now im getting a overheating buzzer and it is not peeing. please help

When was the last time water pump was replaced?
What RPM is your overheat?
Stick a wire in pee tube or back flush with
garden hose, it may just be plugged.
Thermostat may have been removed because of pryor problem?
Bad t stat - weak impeller - bad deflectors -
salt,sand,mud, something restricting water flow?

i just changed the water pump and put the ears to it. i got some water out of the tale tell hole but not much. im hoping i will get more water when i test it tomor
row. it was overheating at wot.
