Changing a boats name

I am new to boating and just bought my first boat, a 19DC Seapro. The previous owner left the name on the boat. Is it bad luck to change the name of the boat? I am not a big fan of the current name "Mr. Clean"

Thanks

Re: Changing a boats name

Renaming a boat is worse than not naming one.
I am not superstitious, but somethings are better left alone.
I do think that there is something to the folk lore and tales.

There are ways to do it properly, or at least a reason to have a party anyway. The boating gods like parties:D

Just a bunch of nonsense about hobgoblins and whatnot. Call it whatever you like, or don't call it anything at all.

I've had 5 boats and renamed them all. Only 4 sunk. The other one caught fire. Superstition is for sissies.LOL

It's only a silly superstition like a lot of this nautical stuff. That's what the voices keep saying , anyway.

Re: Changing a boats name

I bought my boat from a colleague who flew A-10s in the USAF. His last name was "Ball". Naturally, his Air Force call sign was "Scrote" and that's what he named the boat.

Removing that name was one of the first things I did after I bought the boat.

Re: Changing a boats name

I took off the old boat's name. Christen it while on blocks with some cheap beer. Then put it in the water. 1st. I needed to replace thermostate. Next 3rd cylinder blew. Needed to remove manifold and lifters to get to plugs OMC. Now it needs new plugs, & water got in cylinder and do I need to go on..... It was running fine under the old name. I need replace riser & exhause, manifold, plugs, flapper valve, and hopefully not much more. $1200 in part alone. I am not going to rename her properly before I go broke!
