Just changed the oil in my four stroke 75hp for the first time. I made a mess!

I did tilt the motor to one side to drain the oil. Not too bad but at the end still made a hell of a mess. Luckily I did it in the rock driveway.

The oil filter...... I put a rag under it, but still made one hell of a mess.

Do you all have any tips to make this job a little cleaner.......

Duct tape a cardboard 'lip' across the motor leg to help direct the oil into your drain pan.

Oil absorbent 'diaper' stuffed under the oil filter wicks up oil far better than any 'rag' material I have tried.

This is just one example, one of the cheaper brands

I've floated my drain pan on top of a couple of these to change oil while on the water, any drops splashed wicked into the pad, water just rolls off, these will only soak up petroleum products.
