Hi , I have a 13 1/8th x 21 ballistic propeller with the pressed in rubber hub.
well I think its the old type of pressed in hub.
I want to change this to omc 13 spline hub of the pressed in type.
Now what I need to know is this, can I simply press out the original mercury and then press in the omc hub ?

I ask this as on my omc props at the gearbox end you can see the rubber where the thrust washer sits in there, on the ballistic that end is solid !!!
On a few makes of props I have seen the other end being open as in you can see the rubber bush.
in my mind I would press out the mercury hub and then press in the omc making sure its the right way round and use a washer on the nut end that is similar to a thrust washer.
will also need to make a thrust washer fro the prop as its very different to the omc props I already have.

I also have to trim the back of the hub so as to fit the prop into the omc gearbox, the prop has plenty of metal there so can trim that down easy enough.

If this all can be done, what pressure will it need to push out and press in a hub ? 2 ton or more ?

before anyone says just get another prop, I cant.. props here for what I want are not easy to get hold of, if I could simply swap this for the same in a
omc version of same prop or similar I would.

in the pics below you can see both the Ballistis and OMC hubs from gearbox end,

I never attempted to change rubber pressed in hubs. I do know that prop shops do it on a regular basis. One thing that is very important and you need to consider is symmetry to the axis of the prop shaft. If you don't get the hub pressed in evenly, the prop will wobble as it's rotated which will cause vibration and would probably cause problems later on plus the aggravation to you. Nothing magical about Ballistic. My last 3 were the badge. Pressing in and out shouldn't be any different than any other SS prop.

Go over to the Force/Chrysler forum and find a guy by the name of Frank A....... I can't spell his name but it's something like Ampehora. He has worked several of his props over and I think he has done some rubber hub replacing. Give him a ping.....nice guy likes to help folks.

I had 3, still have 2, all 13+ x 17, 21, and 24XL, all Stainless. All the hubs are pressed in rubber. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there. Go over to the Force Forums and look up Frank A. (I can't remember how to spell his last name). He has done it and knows how to do it correctly.

Well the passing of Frank is some surprise to me. Will check out his obit. Will miss his efforts on the Chrysler-Force forums especially since I had a couple of Chryslers back in 1971 time frame. Guess this why we haven't heard from him in the last two attempts I suggested for folks to contact him.
