Hi , I have a 13 1/8th x 21 ballistic propeller with the pressed in rubber hub.
well I think its the old type of pressed in hub.
I want to change this to omc 13 spline hub of the pressed in type.
Now what I need to know is this, can I simply press out the original mercury and then press in the omc hub ?
I ask this as on my omc props at the gearbox end you can see the rubber where the thrust washer sits in there, on the ballistic that end is solid !!!
On a few makes of props I have seen the other end being open as in you can see the rubber bush.
in my mind I would press out the mercury hub and then press in the omc making sure its the right way round and use a washer on the nut end that is similar to a thrust washer.
will also need to make a thrust washer fro the prop as its very different to the omc props I already have.
I also have to trim the back of the hub so as to fit the prop into the omc gearbox, the prop has plenty of metal there so can trim that down easy enough.
If this all can be done, what pressure will it need to push out and press in a hub ? 2 ton or more ?
before anyone says just get another prop, I cant.. props here for what I want are not easy to get hold of, if I could simply swap this for the same in a
omc version of same prop or similar I would.
in the pics below you can see both the Ballistis and OMC hubs from gearbox end,
