Since I am an Inland mariner, I don't know doodly squat about inboard boats. All I see is ski boats. I am building a Barrelback replica. I bought a 898 mercruiser engine and i need to know about transmissions. I can find a lot about the trannys, what i can't seem to find is about bell housings, adaptors, etc. there seems to be a lot of velvet drive 71's out there but what about hooking it to the chevy. I also have looked at the PCM's. I have the 898 housing and coupler, which i assume that i do not need. I feel like a dummy here somebody hep me. thanks!

Re: changing mercruiser to inboard tranny

at this moment there is a PCM 40 transmission on ebay the guy says is for a Ford, he also mentions that to be sure that it fits your engine. Aren't these things interchangeable with chevy with the proper bell housing and damper? I'm sure that Velvet and PCM housings, Dampers and Spline sizes must be different, so where can you get the PCM stuff. Thanks for your promp reply, it is helping!

I found a bellhousing used. Now, I need a tranny. What all will bolt to this bellhousing. It had a velvet drive bolted on before What else will bolt up? Many thanks!
