Using 20W-50 is fine. Lucas oil additive?

Additives are useless and sometimes screw up the additive packages oil makers add to the oil. Get a synthetic or synthetic blend oil and use NO ADDITIVES.

From your other posts, you have bigger issues, so don't wast another minute worrying about oil.

Depending on how old the motor is something to consider. I use 10-40 on every car I have and both of my boats. Don't use Lucas additive. A good oil will have everything you need in it already. 20-50 is a little heavy.

Since you have a older flat tappet cam engine, you need to use a heavy-duty oil such as Dello 400 or Rotella T. Lucas is living proof you CAN make a billion selling snake oil!

I would use 20-50 over anything 10-40. In fact Mercruiser recommends 20-50.

NO I would not...in Cali where you are I'd use a straight 40 since you are at the temps where cold starts are a non issue...Straight weight oils do better in marine inboards because they don't have viscosity improvers like multi vis oils....You could use the Merc 25/40 but it's a little harder to find unless you have a lot of boating shops where you are..
Straight 40 Chevron Delo 400, Shell Rotella T or Pennzoil Marine is what I'd use...I know OMC always recommended straight 30 at normal temps but on these older engines with some wear (or lots of wear LOL) the straight 40 is likely to protect better...

How cold is that water the boats sits in? Southern Cal waters can be in the 50's.

The boat is usually on the trailer.

and yes i live in San Diego. its always WARM here. no cold weather. here..

So What should i use.. Grade straight 40??? just asking twices before i purchase that oil..

Also just to confirmed this.. so no LUCAS ADDITIVE to make oil ticker so it could protect the engine more...

weird i seen the sample here at autozone. from regular oil to regular oil with LUCAS additive.. i be damm. the difference looks so good.

It's called advertising. Every snakeoil manufacturer uses it.

You have a boat, why are you at AUTOzone looking for boating answers.

Believe it or not, there are differences in how a marine engine operates and how an automotive engine operates.
When was the last time you ran your automotive engine at 3500 to 4000 rpm in first gear going up hill for hours on end ???????????

Jesus. coming from the Expert.. THIS WILL BE THE LAST TIME I USE LUCAS OIL additive

OK.. what about the Fuel Injector Cleaner FROM LUCAS.. can i use that for my car.. not the boat because it dont have an Injector.. but can I still? to lubricate the piston.

because i notice when i use it on my car.. the car smoke up a little bit. i assume the lucas is lubricating the piston...:D

Geesh, Not another oil thread. This topic should be banned as it's been badly beaten to death over the years. Same question over and over and over and over.

Nah....you're just fouling your plugs and combustion chamber and wasting your money.

Same rules apply.

Snake oil is great for the people that sell it.......not so great for the people that buy it......

Why do so many people complain and post in oil threads if they don't like them?

Why don't you just not click on the thread?

I like reading it as "Oil" is always controversial and it livens up the forum.
