Changing my gas type on my outbord

Hello'



i have my motor running well now . But i am thinking of changing gas form 87 to 97 will is this save gas. Also i am now cleaning my go spark plugs untill thy go bad. This will save my money. It is graet haveing a boat and motor that runs well

You will not save money by changing from 87 to 97 octane. It does not make more power, it does not make better fuel economy, the additives can possibly muck up a perfectly good engine, and for sure, it will drain your wallet. Since you are interested in saving gas, you must also be be interested in saving money. So the lesson here is to stay with 87 octane which is what the engine was designed to run on. Higher octane is needed ONLY when an engine design requires it (as in high compression engines).

If fuel economy is an issue then go to: Yamaha Outboard Performance Bulletins, plug in your boat/motor type, and get information chart on GPH, MPG,MPH for your set-up. That way you can cruise at the most efficient RPM range. Like for my rig,3500RPM's is the most efficient cruise. Good Luck!

thats racing gas - the highest around here is 93 - 105 is at the track
