I use to to have a 17ft Bayliner 175 and i have upgraded to a 21 ft Monterey 204 fsx. Do i need to change the width of height of the running boards on the lift?

Normally. We do not know until you do a very carefull 1st just touching the boat bottom.

To be sure BEFORE crunching something.
Borrow or buy a set of GOOD goggles & a.... underwater light.
Secure the boat over the lift. Either go up & down & talk, or use a long enough stick for signals to the person on the push button box.

This excessive care approach has never failed any of our group.

On lifts that I have purchased we set the bunks up like they were on the trailer prior to trying out the boat on the lift.

If you do not have a good fit of the boat on a trailer or no trailer. Use post # 4 method.
