Changing oil question

I was a doomass in the fall when I winterized my boat. After I had drained the water, fogged the carb and placed the battery on trickle, I remembered I hadn't changed the oil....So....I will be changing the oil tomorrow morning.

I have a 2001 Four Winns 180 Horizon with a 4.3 Volvo. I checked the manual online and it says to use straight weight SAE 30. I do a lot of boating in a lake that is very warm during the summer. Should I use a different weight oil? Will the 30 weight be too thin for such warm waters?

Thanks!

Re: Changing oil question

Can I use regular auto oil, or is there a marine oil I should get?

Thanks

Re: Changing oil question

Rotella or Delvac straight 30 weight is what it needs, sold at most auto parts stores and truck stops in the gallon and quart jugs..
I have used it for years...good oil..;)

I haved used the Walmart 30w too when i find it in the gallon jugs.

Re: Changing oil question

No problem!

You can buy the name Brand Merc or Volvo oil but it is at least double the price.
Probably made by the same people as the Rotella and the others but the dealer wants big money for their brand name on the bottles...

I did an oil change on a V-8 Volvo today,Cost of the oil and filter was 19 bucks...lol!
