Changing out back-back seats

I am thinking of changing out my back-back lounge seats in my 1988 Ozark Fish and Ski 174 to single pedestal seats. Will give me more room in the boat and would probably ride better. I use the boat mainly for fishing. Anyone have an experience, concerns or suggestions? Also any suggestions on seats and pedestals?

Re: Changing out back-back seats

dalew555, I was thinking about doing a similar thing. I have a 16ft starcraft with the lounge seats. For me, I was thinking about removing them even before I had the boat out with 4 people in it. I decided to wait and see if I liked having the ability to sit backwards at all. I realized a few things once I brought 4 people out on the boat. If we are doing any watersport type activities, having the backwards seat helps for observing the person in tow. I know the pedestal seats swivel but if you have more than two people on the boat, the other one must sit in front, or something in my boats case. I also thought about putting two pedestal seats in the back towards the transom. Again with 4 people on the boat, we tested having two people sit in the back and it changed the balance of the boat considerably.

After the tests I think I am just going to keep the seats the way they are, who knows the lounge ability might come in handy some day.

I also have a cabelas near by so that helped alot when I was looking at the pedestals.

Re: Changing out back-back seats

Thanks tjl. Mainly I use the boat for fishing and rarely have more than two people in the boat. I do have the fishing seats that I can put in the back for two more people when not fishing.

Sounds good, if my boat was primarily for fishing those lounge seats would be gone :)....
