I am going to change out vro pump in a 1989 40 hp evinrude outboard. What all do I have to dismantel to access the vro pump and hook up the conventional pump. I see the port on the side of motor to mount new pump but was just wondering how to get to the vro pump to disconnect. Do I have to take off lower cowling. Also how do i pipe gas line from new pump to carbs. Somebody told me that you had to turn the little spitter tee upside down. Is this correct. A detailed hookup would be greatly appreciated.

Why do you want to replace/remove it?

Re: changing out vro pump

it has not been working properly- not dispensing enough oil and the sensors keep malfunctioning and the whistles keep honking. Not worth the worry

Re: changing out vro pump

Is there a part number for this standard pump? I have the 50hp model and need to discontinue the vro. Its already discontinued from prev.owner, fuel pump side went out this weekend. Is there anywhere that shows the hook up of a standard pump for these engines? Not trying to hijack a thread here, but have the same questions... 40-1 ? really? been running 50:1 for a few years now, as per last owners suggestion.
