Hey, We have a 1988 36' Boatel houseboat that has twin 2000 Mercury 60 hp Bigfoot 2 stroke outboards. I can only assume that the lower unit lube has never been serviced because they are always in the water. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can change the oil this spring? I'm figuring I'll have to rig up a lift on deck and lift the motors out of the water one at a time and service them? Thanks Mark

Just use the power tilt and trim, tilt the outboards all the way up till the lower unit is out of the water.

Take your needed tools and gearcase oil w/pump and take a small boat, inflatable, canoe, etc.. and service your outboards from a float, just tie off to the back of your houseboat so you will not float away lol

Most OB engines have a single lift point under the cover that is used to lift the engine on and off the transom.. Try to locate this point, install a lifting ring, and rig an A-frame with come-along or trailer winch to lift it above the water. Service and replace on transom. Sounds easy !!

Lots of luck and don't hurt yourself . . . .or the boat.

Happy Thanksgiving

The lift point on that one would be the threaded center hole in the flywheel. Takes an engine lifting adapter, readily available.

Even if they dont have trim they should be able to tilt far enough foward to engage 1/2 tilt lock to allow you to either beach the stern or get a small boat under them. I have a 12 ft shallow draft aluminum flatbottom that I can usually get under the drives of boats on lifts and OB powered boats. On houseboats I have 10 55gal plastic drums I put on bow and fill with water to raise rearend enough to service drives. On cruisers I take to the dry storage and lift out with towmotor(up to 36ft)
