changing outdrives

i ran into a guy the blew his outdrive up its a 20' starcraft aluminum boat with a 140 4cyl and a 1.98 gear ratio outdrive. i have a 1.84 that came off a 4.3. i looked in my manual and it shows the 1.84 for a 120 engine the wot rpm is the same for the 140 and 4.3. will this outdrive work for him or will it be to much?

Ayuh,... That Info don't sound right,... You might be able to prop it Down enough to run the 140hp...

you are talking only 12/100 difference in ratio ,I would try it
