Re: CHANGING PROPS???
When considering prop changes you need to first determine a couple of things. 1) what's the wide open throttle rpm with normal load using your current prop. If you don't know, you need to find out. 2) You need to know what the recommended wide open throttle rpm range for your engine is. (Probably about 5000 - 5500 rpm).<br />If the rpm is currently in that recommended range going to a 19 inch pitch very likely will drop rpm and could reduce speed as well even though theoretically it should increase. The problem in this scenario is that you are overpropping which means the engine does not have enough power to pull that prop. On the other hand, if the engine is overreving (higher than 5500 rpm) with the current prop, then going to a 19 would bring the rpm back into the proper range. Don't spend money on a prop until you have ensured the engine is properly tuned and the engine height (X-dimension) is optimum (we are not talking trim here). You may have optimum performance with the current prop but you won't know that until you take some speed and rpm readings.
