I have been told that if I change my prop with a stainless steel prop I will get better speed out of my 14.5 ft. 50hp boat. Is there any truth to this

Re: changing props

If you change from Aluminum to Stainless Steel I think in general will gain about 2 MPH. Sometimes need to raise motor a little higher.

Thanks for the info. Idont see 2 mph being worth the extra money,I think I will stay with what I got.

Re: changing props

Additional info for you. An aluminum prop is supposed to break if you hit something real hard. This is supposed to keep the bulk of the impact from being transferred to the gearbox and driveshaft.

A stainless prop will not break, so there is more of a chance that there will be internal damage.

Just another reason to stay with the aluminum prop.
