I have a 1988 tiller steering 30 h.p. Johnson electric start motor that I would like to change over to a steering wheel steering. Is there a "kit" for such? The boat I want to put the motor on has the throttle and gearshift controls, but no electric start switch or choke controls. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Changing Steering

Hey Paul.

You can get a remote electric start kit from your Johnny/Rude dealer for about $210 American. This gives you primer, key sw. on dash on all the go alongs to make it work. PN 174655.

If the steering is already installed and you have a tilt tube, all you'll need is a steering link. 'Bout $37.

You may also need a remote control adaptor kit to hold the shift and throttle cables to the engine....not sure on that one but probably need something in that area.

I'm gonna guess that you can set it up for about $300 or less from the Johnny/Rude dealer. Would be easier if I could "eye-ball" the set up.

Hope we've helped some.

Thanks, OBJ. I wish I knew how to use a digital camera and send the set up to you. I greatly appreciate your reply.
