Does anybody go to or have any info about the Channel Islands (Santa Cruz, Anacapa, San Miguel, Santa Rosa)? Any good fishing or other activities at the islands? I'm thinking about making the trip sometime.

Yes, been to most all of them some many times. The ones you mentioned are the northern islands making up the national park. Channel Islands National Park. There is access to a couple of them through a company called Island Packers. They arange tours, kayak trips at the islands and I think overnighters on one of the islandsI used to be an avid diver and have enjoyed all the Islands you mentioned many times. The Island Packer outfit is out of Ventura Harbor and there are a number of charter boats there as well. Santa Barbara Harbor also runs boats to the islands. Truth Aquatics has three dive boats that visit frequently. You can also visit Santa Catalina Island out of the Los Angeles area. This island is most developed and has an interesting small town called Avalon. Hotels and eateries abound at Avalon. This island belonged to the Wrigleys years ago but I think it was donated in part to the Catalina Island Concervancy or at least its ran by them. This area has a zoo, golf a small airport. There are tours, glass bottom boats, charter fishing boats and there is a large fishing grounds behind the island and to the south. Feel free to ask if you need more stuff to consider. Oh yes to get there the Catalina Express is the most popular transportation to the island.

I was actually thinking about taking my 17ft Glastron there. Are there moorings or protected spots to anchor overnight? I've been to Catalina a few times on my dad's 48ft Uniflite. I took my 17ft Larson bowrider to Avalon a few years ago and my dad followed me in his 13ft Boston Whaler (I actually followed him, he had the faster boat). We went on Friday the 13th. We left from Long Beach about sunrise while it was still calm.

That channel can get very rough, a lot rougher than the Catalina channel, and I would not reccomend doing it in a 17' boat.

I agree, the northern island channel is a ton meaner than the Catalina crossing. I have been on a 85 ft dive boat more than once out of Ventura when the water was breaking at the bow and the spray was perhaps 60 ft back behind the bow.
You would need to be accrossed the channel before and I mean before say 1:00 in the afternoon. A small boat thats fast can reach Anacapa quite quickly from Ventura, its like 11 miles. Used to take a 24ft Pen Yan diving over there a ton, it was my inlaws boat but I'd be back by lunch time.
Avalon is the best idea but the isthmus is quicker to reach and it has a string line to tie to if your early enough in the day.
