I read in another topic that Chaparrals were heavy because of the way they were built. I can't seem to find the original post so can anyone here confirm, explain, or deny this statement?

Chap's are good boats. They never scrimped on materials to build them.

Heavy? Who's to say? Only a scale will determine that.

Chap's are worth the rebuild, IMHO.

Well there are lots of different models out there... and they use to have a "cheap" line and a nice line. My parents have a 186 SS which has a deep haul and an all glass floor making for a heavier boat. I have seen a lot of bots go through the shop, chappies are really nice, great looking, fit and finish, and that thing most companies have forgot about, great layout.

Comparing cruiser weights does not suggest Chaps are exceptionally heavy -

Chaparral 240 ---- 5377
Crownline 250 ---- 6400
Doral Monticello -- 6390
Four Winns 258 -- 6220
Regal 2565 -------- 5960
Rinker 250 -------- 6350
Stingray 240 ------ 4605
