I have a 1981 28hp Johnson with electric start. My old battery just died so I went and bought a new Ever start marine. If I am typically using my boat once or twice a week, how often should I charge the battery to make it last (and make sure I never wind up stranded out in the flats). On an average day on the water, I'll start the boat anywhere from 5-15 times to give you some perspective on how often the battery is used...I'm also assuming theres no sort of alternator in the motor. Thanks for any help or advice guys.

You might want to post the model # cause i don't think they made a 28 hp in 81.Maybe you should get a trickle charger and leave it on all the time or get a solar charger and see how that works.

Well the model number on the engine is all scratched out and the title says 1981, which I'm assuming is the year of the boat (its just an aluminum jon boat) so how can I find out the actual year of my motor? would it be located somewhere else on the title?

Motor should have a core plug with the sn and model stamped on it. Look on the rear top of the block.
