With the motor off the battery is at 12.876.running it goes down a little. When I rev it up it goes up 3. Still not charging. I tested the wires with my meter and I'm getting 16 to 18 volts at the solenoid but not to the battery.i ran another wire to the battery from their and same thing. The battery is clean and new.what gives? It's like the charge is backing out of the wire. But it will run without the battery.

Re: Charging issue

Their is a red wire hanging off the back my the top spark plug but don't know where it goes.maybe a tac? Idk but it does not affect the motor connected to the positive side of the battery.it does have power when running.when it is not running it don't.

Re: Charging issue

If you have 16-18V at the solenoid, it doesn't make sense that it wouldn't be the same at the battery. The two items are connected with fat battery cables. Better check your cables for breaks or bad (dirty, loose, corroded) connections. Don't forget the negative cable is part of the circuit.

From what I understand it has diodes in the regulator.if they go bad the power will go reverse or back out of the wire.is this true? If so that's the problem.the cables are good and the wires are fat.

I thought if regulator goes bad it just overcharges it.
Power only backs out if its getting demanded from the battery.
As FR said it makes no sense you have just a big V difference there as they are connected by big wires.
Only a bad wire/s would cause that

Correct but this is a regulator/rectifier from what I was told.the rectifier has diodes and only allows current to go one way.if bad it could go both ways. And also let's say it's ifs the unit will I be safe to run it this weekend. I was told the stator will get hot but it should not if I unplug the ac wires?

Re: Charging issue

That allows current to go only one way in terms of the alternating current from the stator.
That means that it converts it from ac to dc to the battery.
Its not stopping directional change back into the stator.
Yes you can ruin it by unplugging the ac wires.
Got another battery too take out?
Also whats the problem? is it going flat on you as you say it will go up when you increase engine speed

When I rev the motor it goes from 12.86? To 12.90 and that's about it. Like I said if I test at the solenoid it's at 18 revved. The power is backing out.

Yes I have more batteries. Just did not want to mess up the motor lol. I hope someone can help. It's a weirded problem haha.

And that 18v is directly connected to the battery so something is wrong in your battery or the wire to it or its connections
Maybe someone else can figure out another answer for you, but it wont be me as thats how i think they work

And another thing like I said I took the charging wire off the solenoid and ran it straight to the battery and still not charging.i even revved it up.

Does the motor turn over good when you start it ??

Re: Charging issue

Yes like new.it runs without the battery so I know the stator is good.ive ran it with a wire attached to the charging wire and same thing.but now it's not charging any.like I'm not reading anything above 13 at the solenoid like before I got 18.ive cleaned connections and everything.

Re: Charging issue

Well if you once read 18 and its now 13 somethings changed from what you previously said. You have probably damaged the stator from running it without it being attached $$$$$$$$

I checked it again it's good thank god.i think it's the regulator any one else?

Re: Charging issue

If you run it with the battery cable off you'll blow the rectifier.

Re: Charging issue

Get on cdi electronics website and look up the regulator for that motor.... They have a PDF that tells how to troubleshoot.... Very useful sote
