My 90hp 1993(E90TLETS)EVINRUDE will run ,but appears not to be charging. I tested battery and they said it was good (interstate batt).charges to about 12.8v,but after awhile at sea the battery drops to about 12.2-v and motor wont turn. i got rectifier but havent installed yet.How likely is it that its the reg/rectifier vs. the stator ? I have the manual, but testing seems tricky?Should I just replace the rectifier and hope it works?LOL! Or should I test stuff and still able to return rectifier if it is somthing else? I wiil say the existing reg/rect looks pretty old/salty. THANKS:)

If it were me I'd test the rec/reg before dumping a hundred bucks on a part I might not need.

Have you measured the voltage across the battery terminals when running? You should get ~ 13.5vdc + at any decent RPM. (Use a good digital voltmeter).

You can also measure the AC voltage across the yellows from the stator to the reg/rect. You should get over 30 VAC here. If not, you either have a bad stator or wiring problem. If the AC voltage is OK, then I would suspect the reg/rect.

if it were me i would clean all battery cable pos and neg, connections, battery, and engine end, including cable from solenoid to starter. also check for nicks in the wires. connections must be clean and TIGHT.
