Does your battery go flat? Just maybe your voltmeter is reading incorrectly. Have you tried reading the battery voltage with another meter?

Infinite ohms will give you the same reading as if the meter probes are sitting in mid air, i.e. the meter will do nothing.

Are you sure you have hooked up the regulator the right way? Have you checked the stator windings have no connection to ground? You've replaced everything in the circuit except the battery. Maybe you shoud try another battery!
My fish finder Has a Volts display and it reads dead on what my meter reads at the Engine solenoid.
I have Also replaced the Battery and still Nothing

Tanks
BadBoy

Re: charging Issues

So is your battery running flat then?

What started this all off anyway? Did the voltage all of a sudden drop?

You should check that you have 12V on the purple lead into the rectifier/regulator. The R/R needs 12V from the battery on this wire to operate. Measure the voltage on this wire with the keyswitch on. Should be 12V there with the key in the run position.

I still maintain that you should measure the charging current directly to confirm whether you are getting a charge. This is the method specified in the service manual. Can you borrow a meter which can measure up to 10A DC. You can also get meters which clip around the outside of the wire to measure current. Measuring voltage is a good indication - but you are getting around 13V which means the battery should be charging.

Re: charging Issues

If the reading across the two wire plug should be infinity and it reads zero, you have a dead short existing.

I don't know what kind of VOM you're using, but if you measure directly across the batt terminals with the motor running, no big electrical loads and get < 13.5 to 14.5 VDC, it ain't charging. Also, the battery would be discharging over time, rather than staying charged. It it? A digital voltmeter is nice here BC it'll tell you exactly what the voltage is. [A fully charged battery at rest should read ~ 12.68 VDC].

If you have an inductive ammeter, you might try it. They're not expensive ... the CalVan one I have was less than $20 as I recall.

What you've said so far, suggests the stator may be bad, even though it's new.

Badboy, you said you replaced the stator with a new one. Did you make sure the stator coil was indexed to the armature plate on the mounting bosses, were they flush? If not properly aligned, this will affect the A/C output from the stator.

Did you take a resistance reading between the yellow stator lead and ground?

Did you take a resistance reading between the yellow/grey stator lead and ground?

I don't have a print of your wiring, I'm curious..where does the 2 wire connector connect to? Is this the yellow and yellow/grey stator output wires? Also, do you have a rectifier with a built-in regulator? or is this a rectifier only.
