Last Saturday I finally did something I been wanting to do.

Had a school of white bass flanked by 4 or 5 boats, out in the middle of the lake, a mile or more on either side, having a pretty good time when here comes a pontoon and two jet-skis. The 'toon and 1 jetski give us a wide berth but the other idiot just blew by me about 20 feet away. I cranked up and went after him, he saw me coming, his eyes got big, he started evasive manuvers, but I stayed after him. He slowed down enough for me to yell, "it's a big d--- lake, why you got to f--- with us?" I saw it was a young man, maybe 20, he drove over to the 'toon, which was driven by an older gentleman & had some more mature folks, apparently out for a cruise. The old guy spoke to the jetskier who took off for the other end of the lake. Then he waved at me & said "sorry." I figured that was good enough, so I just went back to fishing.

Next time, though, it's your turn!

Right on! I've had a few sharp words with dumba$$es like that before. Not only would that be illegal here in MN, it's downright disrespectful and uncool! I am not a fisherman, but I am glad to hear that you feel the same as I do. Stay the heck away from me if you've got the rest of the whole darn lake (directed at jetskiers...a.k.a. water gnats).

Get them, I don't really like jet ski's much. I had one actually bump into me one time when I was fishing. I got the Game Warden on him for violating the 50 foot rule. I am from Arlington, what lake were you on?

It was Richland Chambers Reservoir, bic-it, near Corsicana. Far enough from the metroplex that skiers/jetskiers aren't very much of an issue usually even on weekends.

I watched an idiot on a jet ski do circled around the end of the loading dock at Lake Pat Cleburne. This is a small lake, with a small loading area and a small run down pier to tie to. Boats were bouncing everywhere, but no one said anything to the guy. I was thankfully waiting my turn to get into the loading area, so he was gone by the time I got in.

Jtexas- I was out on Richland a week ago wednsday. We were looking for crappie but not having much luck due to the high water, its about 3 feet higher than the norm for this time of year. We watched the birds and sure enough, they showed us the white bass when they hit. They were everywhere, almost as far as you can see. By the way- no jet fleas at all that day.

Let me understand this, sea fleas, water gnats, and jet fleas are all the scourge of the lake, also know as PWC's? I am pleased ot hear there are others like me who will stand up for ourselves and confront others who disrespect us. Common courtesy is no tas common as it once was. And I think the single nature of most PWC's is why most of them are self centered jerks.
I applaud you jtexas, it's about time people are held accountable for there actions, even if it's only by normal folk And bic-it luckily there was a game warden nearby, BRAVO!!!

Hmmm...makes me think about something. I was very close to trading my 16' boat for a sea-doo.
I changed my mind cause a boat is bigger and in my opinion...just a better choice.
I still wouldn't mind having one to tow behind my 30'er.
I'm not a rude person, and I obey the law/rules of boating....but it seems as I would have been ruled a ignorant person cause other people and how they act when riding them. Hmmmmm......

I leave them alone if they do not disturb me while I am on my boat.

I've seen "Jetski Repellant" for sale in various tackle shops in South Florida and South Texas. They come in 2 sizes, 4 ounces and 6 ounces. I talked to the manufacturer about it. He said the egg shape had a farther range than the bank and pyramid shapes and the the smaller sizes were not as effective... :)

Re: Chased down a jet-flea!

You know, to be fair, there are probably just as many idiots in boats as on jet skis, it's just that jet skis have a greater annoyance factor. Believe me, there are jet ski types too numerous to count out there on the Columbia driving jet boats. The Lake Washington fishery was rife with jerks including skiboats who were just out there for the purpose of screaming in amongst 5000 boats trolling in close proximity. Despite what Harbor Patrol had told me the day before, there was no enforcement of any kind in evidence until late in the day when we saw a single Sherriff's boat. Incredibly, there was no on water fisheries enforcement that we saw at all. Which explains the guy who was fishing three poles, but I digress.

Ive done the same thing ONLY.

My wife was riding a jetski, and a bassboat cut across in front of her in a narrow cove and barely missed her.

I chased him down and had a little chat with him.

Its not just the PWC, its ALL watercraft, there is a general lack of respect there.

I rarely like to play at the lake on the weekends any more, its not safe for my children to tube, there is always someone in a bassboat or skiboat not following the 200ft rule.

Dont single out any one group, its not just PWC, its boats also.

Ok I HATE to do this BUT I have a good word for some girls on a lake nearby.....! I was pulling my daughter on our knee board. the girls were riding at a nice distance off to one side.. my 10 yo daughter wiped out the girl driving the Jet ski slowed down .. cut out in to the line of traffic and blocked my daugher from on coming boats she had slowed to a near stop and all three were watching very close !! As My daughter was climbing in I waved and yelled thank you. I wonder if that was something maybe a training course taught them or what but it was VERY nice.

It all boils down to just plain ol common sense and polite courtesey. I treat other boaters and pwc's the same as I want to be treated.

Re: Chased down a jet-flea!

we here in indiana have idle zones and speed zones usualy fishing is bad all over lake but pwc's stay out of idle zones. Have to agree though common sense and a little courtesey is all it takes to have a great time on the water.

Re: Chased down a jet-flea!

Most of my issues are with the go fast boats that are in our local lakes. They think nothing of speeding by at a good clip not far from ya leaving pretty good size wakes to toss ya about. They will cruise close to docks also leaving a good size wake that tends to bounce ya into the dock, fenders or not, I've got some crinkled aluminum because of this.
Jetskis, not really an issue in our lakes, we do have a good size jet ski community that hits the lakes but most are civilized.
