Those valves are to allow excessive fuel to be recirculated to other cylinders extending to the economical features of the engine. Should one or more be faulty, that would cause a imbalance of the fuel mixture, resulting in having (for example), a cylinder run lean and anothe run rich.<br /><br />The function of the recirculating valves is to allow the mixture flow in one direction only and that is from the inside screen area to the nipple hose portion of the valve.<br /><br />There must be no flow in the reverse direction which is from the hose nipple portion of the valve to the screened area.
