Check valves and rough idle. 1998 75 hp

Checked the recirculation system and found two of the check valve were not closing properly. They were not blocked but just not closing fully. Cleaned them with carb cleaner but still not working. I?ve been chasing a rough idling problem for a while.

I have my fingers crossed that this is the problem.

Will faulty check valves cause intermittent rough idling problems?

Yes, if the fuel recirculation system is not functioning properly it can cause problems at idle speed. That is the purpose of the fuel recirculation system. To eliminate excess fuel puddling up in the by-pass passages at low RPM.
