1995 Merc. 75hp serial# 0G271057 Model 1075412RD. I've rebuilt the carbs. and decided to inspect the reed valves. Looking at manual there are 2 check valves behind #2&#3 reeds that are supposed to have nylon balls but there are none. Are these important if so what problems would they cause.

Thanks
Barry

I see no link or picture related to "This".

If part #6 in this bleed system diagram is what you're referring to, yes it's pretty important.

Missing or defective would cause poor idle.

Where do the lines go to from the check valves?

I would assume they are bleed valves to take puddled fuel from behind the reeds. Very important for idle.

John, these don't have bleed lines like we have on our V-6's. These are actually in the intake manifold and ironically are covered by the gasket. For the life of me I can't figure out how they work but they do. Just leave one out and you'll have a really crappy idle. The 4 cylinder is the same way.

I'll purchase 2 new ones and install. Will report later on how she runs.
Thanks again for the help.
