a couple of simple questions but I am unsure so better ask:
(1980 898, was 305 now 350, 2bbl)

1) How do you check for water in the fuel/water filter...just empty it into a bowl and see if the phases separate?
2) How do you check for water in the cylinders? Spark plugs are not rusty.

Yep, that's it. Using a clear container makes it real easy to see.

2) How do you check for water in the cylinders? Spark plugs are not rusty.

Pull the plugs and bump the starter over a little at a time. it will squirt water out the plug holes if there is some there.

Now, Why are you asking????? What is your problem?
Too many times I have seen people asking questions like this only to find the real question and problem had nothing to do with the questions ask.

1) Yes.....& replace it anyway.....
2) Remove the plugs, ground the wire that runs from the coil to the dist., crank the engine.....
No rust on the plugs is a good sign......:)

Don, Haut...thanks for the replies.

Refer to the "Mercruiser 898 cutting out" thread. It is 12 or 13 threads below this one.
