Re: Chemical to remove oxidiation from gel coat.
oxidation or the chalking of a hull is gelcoat oxidation. over time the gelcoat due to UV exposure develops small pits in it, things like vaseline, or rain x or any other things are only temporary cover ups, it will fill in the pits so the light will reflect back, causing the shiny look. the only way to fix it properly is to depending on how bad it is use a compound to buff it out, and if its real bad wet sand then compound. after either you need to apply a decent uv resistant wax, and apply it as often as the container recommends, this indeed will keep your boat beautiful for years. my father hasnt once buffed his 1987 mach 1 and it looks like the gelcoat is only a few years old.
I personally tried some vaseline on a small portion of my boat that was real bad at the beginning of the season, and it still looks better than the spots i didnt do, and i brought the boat out for 300 hrs. it wasnt a fix, i was just curious and i had some laying around. this winter im buffing with a heavy compound and working up to finer compounds then wax
good luck, post ur results
