Re: Chevy Duramax or Dodge Cumins????

I have a friend who is at a GM dealer and is a diesel tech... and my father tows his camper all over the place with a Dodge he bought new. The Dodge has been a pain in the butt after 50K miles- tranny issues, etc.

I'd go with the Chevy hands down.

it tows a goose neck with on average 20 thousand pounds a day for the 150 thousand mile the truck has on it

Ah gotcha, I didnt even think pounds :)

On another note, I have an 03 cummins reg cab and have plowed and tow with it every year, and I am hard on my trucks and this year was the first I had to do any work to it. Of coarse it all happened after the warranty was up but I expected these things to go from plowing anyway, I replaced my tie rod ends and upper and lower ball joints as well as brakes. I run 35" super swampers and do off road once and a while. I also have a quadzilla race box as well as a cold air intake and duel 6" stacks. It has been a good truck for me thus far and would buy another as long as it didnt have that DPF crap on it. My cousin drives a 09 Mack and says it is always clogging and causing the truck to pop codes.

Good Luck with your new rig

FORD!!!! I'm saying that and I'm a Chevy guy. I've got a 99 F-250 with the 7.3 and a 6-speed manual. I love it. I'm almost at 190,000 miles, uses no oil, gets damn near 20 MPG on the highway, and is a blast to drive. Plus, the manual has NO PROBLEMS!!! The auto's always have problems. And having the granny gear is great. When pulling the boat out of the water, granny gear and just slowly let the clutch out. It'll chug right along.

I've got an intake, exhaust, and a tune on my PCM (80 economy). It really pulls hard.

The 7.3 is the engine to have.

I can do that with my cummins in third gear........lol:D But i got it chipped up pretty good.Smarty all the way up 170hp,Dioblo power puck 100hp,no cat, cold air intake, and a valair clutch good for up to 650hp and 1200 ft lbs of torque.Have had this clutch for a year and a half and i put it to the test all the time.Have done countless 3rd gear launches with it.Would highly recommend valair clutches to anyone,Had a southbend and it would not hold a third gear launch and it barely lasted me a year and was twice as much as a valair.
