The Chief will stay outboard as SC created her OUTBOARD. I have owned her for 15 years and never knew she was a rare and desirable model. Sorry for my lack of knowledge and thank you all for putting me strait. The Chief has been sitting for 3 years due to divorce problems. Boat and trailer was mine, motor was not. Today the SC gods must want the Chief to remain OB because I a got a phone call saying keep the old Merc 650 OB and come by and get the cuddy cushions and 6 ft sunbrella camper canvas, both of witch I thought were gone for ever. I had just started to remove the Merc when I got the call, only removed the shifter/control box. Underneath the box was the SC id plate!! Saying 18' Starchief-V OB serial no 67 25862. Thinking maybe it's a 67, I checked the brochures as instructed by one of you guys [don't know how I missed it last night] and there was a burgundy [same colour I thought mine was originally] Starchief 18 OB with all the specs. In the pic there is a bride and groom and a chef holding a wedding cake. The summer I split with my wife I practically lived on the boat, any one like to guess what the SC gods are trying to tell me?
Hopefully I can awaken the old model 650 65 hp Merc 1972 I think without giving the Admiral of the Fleet an other heart attack with all your
help. I knew the hull was light but 860 lbs doesn't seen possible not that
I'm complaining. I think the old 650 pushed her to 27 mph not gps checked. Maybe with a newer 4 stroke 115 hp OB she could hit 40 mph,
any thoughts? I here talk of groups on this forum is there any SC groups
I should join? I am going to try to upload some pic with this post. I'm
going to post this as a new post seems strange to reply to my own post
if this is incorrect please move it and let me know.
This is a great forum I plan on being an active part of, great boats
and greater people make a great forum.
Thank you for the honest replys.

Beautiful boat, those Chieftains are classic. Glad to hear the good news, sounds like you've got plenty to work with:)

Good luck with her, hope to see her on the water!

Good choice. If it wouldn't take much to get that 65 running I'd do it just so I could get it out on the water enough to take a nice video of it running to insert into a well-written CL ad. Sell it and take the money and put it towards a nice 115 or 140 which will easily push your boat 40+ MPH. I'm hitting 41 MPH with my 90 and a light load on the same basic hull minus the cabin.

Well done!!:D

Yah, keeping her an OB makes all the sense in the world. I'd say if you can get that Merc running for next to nothing in no time at all, great! Otherwise, just save your pennies and buy your baby a nice 100ish HP that will last you forever.

Welcome, congrats, good decision!

Cheers!
