Just watching ABC news about the average Chinese worker annual income. How's $6500 grab ya? Anyone wonder why they can produce such low cost goods now?

Re: China vs. US made

Some of us here that are a bit older remember wishing we could make that kind of money back in the day. And that was only in the 60's!!!!!! That market is catching up quickly. It was only a few years ago that thier yearly average was on $200.00. Great strides are being made there. Without getting political, one of the main reasons companies are doing business there beside wages is the complete lack of an EPA. That will catch up too. I believe in some cases it is happening as we speak. But the lack of government strangulation is a big plus for them.

In my industry, robotics and automated painting, many companies went to China because the manual labor was so inexpensive. Poor qualilty killed them! Now they're stuck and have automated in China; to save their $$$ of moving back to the US.

Better to improve production processes in the US and compete from here. We're in a global economy......

If they had to sell it at the cost of what their dollar is actually worth and not what they want it to trade at, the cost of production would not be so far apart.

Coal and power plants was discussed on TV this morning. I think they said China can build a power plant in 21 months, where here it takes 21 years to get through the permit process. The handwriting is on the wall. Good luck to us all.

I just read a good article that spelled out the reasons why the Chinese economy is in big trouble..

They have leveraged the demand for cheap labor to grow very rapidly. Now they are approaching full employment (4.x% unemployment) and having to start raising wages and compete for employees which threaten the very value proposition.

Here is the article.. http://biggovernment.com/cstreet/2010/11/17/chinas-economic-miracle-is-over/#more-196741

Comparing the buying power of currencies is useless without the local standard of living for comparison. That $6,500 USD a year might provide a very comfortable living in China.

I made $8K the past 5 yrs and live ok.
I'll triple that this yr and more next.

Anyone trying to run a business in the US knows how nutty its getting with red tape. I'll take a chinese worker anyday, smart and industrious.

Uh Oh. I think I just heard JB coming down the hall. :D

Naa, he's ok. This thread will be just fine till some tow-rope decides to say something stupid.

I am seriously considering going up to the Easter 2011 Canton Fair, actually called the China Import and Export Fair in Guangzhou.

Got a friend, Leo, (businessman) who returned the other day from it, (happens twice per year), and he goes to every one: (last ? or so years or something).
He does business, both ways - very interesting - (maybe another thread).

This time he is getting together a few business mates and wives as a group. Sincerely believes we just got to take a look at it, just to know what is really going on there.

My brother goes there maybe ? x's per yr, but he is a jurno in agriculture (own business) and he too talks of what is happening there, which makes little sense to me.
He tells me that the cheap material gadjets flooding the western world is only part of the story. Years ago he use to tell me, "meet me in HK and I will take you for a look around".

This time, I think I will go.
I would really like to hears others experiences, either directly or indirectly.

Cheers
Phillip

Re: China vs. US made

Just came back from 2 weeks in Shenzhen, China a week ago.
Tool and die maker leader $500 per month + living accommodation and food.
Regular tool and die maker $400 + living and food
Machinist $350 + living and food
Apprentice and admin staff $300 + living and food.

Skill level sadly lacking for trouble shooting and trying out. But they are learning from us each time we go and assist finishing our tooling before shipping it to us.
Hard to be able to tell the true cost of living as I stayed in an extremely nice hotel but from what I found, yes it is significantly lower.

Not without western help their not.

As for their technological development..... However, the first Chinese manned flight program............................... culminated in Yang Liwei's successful 2003 flight aboard Shenzhou 5. This achievement made China the third country to independently send humans into space.

I wonder if they'll rust out like their tools do?:p

Still gotta be better than Airbus aka SCAREBUS.

Re: China vs. US made

Let's put AMERICA back like it used to be in jobs and keeping our money at home. Example >> For every item , Autos or anything else , only import one item for each item that we export . We have bailed out other countries long enough !!
It is my understanding that the U.S. Government subsidizes local companies for each job that is sent out of the country . This should be STOPPED IMMEDIATELY
! !
ALL industries in the U.S. should be AMERICAN owned and OPERATED . This would keep our money and jobs at home , where it belongs .
Other countries owes the U.S. trillions of dollars . Are they trying to pay us back ? NO . If the above happened we could pay off our overseas debts without hurting our own citizens .
I know that I will receive flack over this , but, think of this . If every auto, cell phone, computer or anything else that we purchase was made HERE , we wouldn't have such a high unemployment rate .

Thanks for reading whether you agree or not .
