Choke Issues

I am having a few issues with the choke on my engine, 1975 85HP.

This week while on vacation I could not get the engine to start, checked the fuel system and spark and everything was great. The next day I friend and I where trying to start it and he flilpped the choke lever by the fuel pump to choke on and it fired after a few seconds of cranking.

That level has always been set to automatic, I have never had an issue with it not starting right up. It has a electric choke solenoid that is not hooked up either, but it was never an issue before.

What is going now? Is it time to rebuild the carbs or do I have something else going on?

Re: Choke Issues

All outboards need choke at some time. I suggest that you fix your choke so you can choke it from the control switch.

The electric choke solenoid has never worked. When the key is on, the solenoid feels hot. Does this sound like a bad solenoid or something else?
