Choke, Merc Engine

I am the one with the 71' 80HP Merc...trying to go back together with it. I just noticed that connected to the choke there is a very small diameter steel cable with a metal cylinder on the end...it is just hanging there...I did not disconnect this....It appears to be maybe a weight to open the choke back up....does it need to be connected or otherwise...again, many, many thanks!!

It slides into the solinoid that is on the flywheel cover

I was thinking about your other quistion and I forgot to tell you that you could use hot soapy water and a small brush to clean that cap, also if the center carbon is worn it is available seperatly from a dealer---Bob

Got it....I see how it works now....I will see how she runs when I get the starter back and go from there. I did put in another set of plugs though...they looked worn.
