choke or idle problem???

Just bought a used 1986 Johnson 4 hp motor. cranks right up but when I start pushing in the choke the motor accelerates and when I start to slide the throttle back to the shift position the motor it goes dead. Thanks

The carb is dirty, get a rebuild kit and tear it apart, cheap and easy fix.
