I have a 1989 Celebrity 4.3 175hp alpha one Thunder bolt ignition , my choke is always open, and when i took it out the other day, i started it at home before i went out started fine, but when i launched 30 mins later it just turned over and did'nt start, even though i always pump the throttle 2 times to get it going. it runs great when started no problems at all. untill i stop and turn off engine for a while then its the same thing. its had new tune up and water fuel sep put onand carb rebuilt , i also put seafoam in the gas tank after winter. when i check the choke leave its not connected to anything can some show me where this needs to be conected or should i not worry about it. thanks

Ayuh,......

Are you saying the Choke plate is free to rotate as it pleases,..??
Connected to Nothing,..??

That's definitely something to be Worrying about....

There's usually a Quite Abit of free-play in the choke linkage,...
But it still Has to be hooked up....

Ayuh,....

And a single Full throttle stroke should "Set" it to start.....

Then it releases with Heat from the Wire going to it....

Re: Choke Question

From what it looks like, the black platic case on the side of the carb is hooked directly to a thermo spring inside that housing. It controls how long the choke stays closed. Remove the three screws that hold on the cover and pull it off. You will see a loop in the spring that catches on the choke plate. Make sure they are mated, the arm in the catch. The spring is attached to the plastic case. Once back on, with a stone cold engine. Give the throttle a stroke and go back and see that the choke closed. If not, Loosen those three screws and turn the black cover until the choke plate barely touches closed. Start the engine. There is a choke pull down that partially opens the choke once the engine starts. It should open about 1/8th of an inch. This adjustment requires the rod be bent to achieve the opening. After that it should be good to go. Been awhile for me and a small Rochester, but this should work...
