Posted a question here before and got a great answer, bought the part right here and now have that solved so here goes my next problem.
I have a 65hp merc 4 cylinder that I still don't know the year model for.... Anyway it runs pretty good but the electric choke doesn't work. After you finally get it started and the engine warms up, it starts fine and runs good. I need to find a new choke silonoid but the parts show up as no longer avaliable in all the places I've looked. Anyone know of a place I might be able to find one or have any suggestions to fix this problem other than use this thing as a troutline weight and find me a newer unit?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: Choke Question

My serial number is 4233031. According to everything I've seen this thing is a 1975, but I didnt think they made the 4 cylinder 650 engine in that year. Either way I have to figure out some way to make this thing start when it is cold. It just runs too good once its warmed up to throw away.
I wish this thing had a high idle on it like a johnson. Anybody know how to make it do that as well? Would just be easier to get it started and going when its cold.
Thanks for any help.

Re: Choke Question

Thanks for the link, but i've checked there. Guess its time to just trash this darn thing and find a newer one.
Sure do hate to though since it runs and starts real good once its warmed up.

Re: Choke Question

Do you have any outboard salvage yards in your area? If not I can give you a couple of #'s to try that will probably ship.

Re: Choke Question

well your right i dont think they made a 4cyl in that year - was this motor bought used ? at any rate having looked at the solenoid - go down to the parts store and ask for one from say a 1988 45 hp - i'm pretty sure they will be the same .

Re: Choke Question

When you say you wish it had a " high idle" , It should have a lever you can use to run the engine at a higher speed without shifting into gear. It should be on the control box.
