Force 50 hp, Model 1988C

Can anyone tell me exactly what the choke solenoid is supposed to do? On this engine the choke solenoid causes the choke to close then its starts right away. After it starts the choke returns to the open position and stays there.Replaced the choke solenoid but it is still the same. What causes the choke to close if it is not the choke solenoid? Can't seem to figure it out.

Re: Choke Solenoid

What you have described is a functioning choke solenoid.
The solenoid is engage by the ignition switch, or a button on the control. If it is the ignition switch, you push the swith in when the ignition is on or in the start posistion, and the solenoid closes the choke.

If you still have the original solenoid I'll buy it from you. Please let me know. Thanks.

Waterboy. Choke solinoids are still availible new and sometimes on ebay. Do a search for chrysler or Force outboards on Ebay. Post your model number and horse power and someone here can post a part number and price for a new one. Also mention if you need the entire choke with plunger and arm.

Re: Choke Solenoid

All, I know this post is somewhat old but concerning the choke solenoid for the mid 1980's model forces. That part is no longer available thru mercury but you can find it at ARCO Marine. Solenoid runs a little over $15.00.....
