Hello everyone,

My serial # is 7077738 and it's a 20hp, my issue is my choke knob does not stay engaged when I pull it.

I have a spare engine with a working assembly, but I can't seem to take the knob off to remove it from the lower cowl. Must be something simple I am missing here .

I've never worked on a Merc before, only OMC's.... so this is a different beast for me lol.

Thanks for any advice guys...

It's the removal of the actual knob that you pull to choke the engine, it's somehow attached to the cable and it's keeping me from pulling it out through the cowl. Once the knob is off the rest will then be free to remove.

.... Just to further pin point exactly what I'm asking....

I don't want to hurt it and I figure they had to get it in there somehow.... lol

You should be able to remove the screw that holds the cable to the carb and remove the choke cable and button from the cowling if needed. Otherwise just leave it in the cowling if you just want to remove the carb to work on it. There are slots on the carb link that the cable, carb end can be removed from. If wanting to replace the cable itself, there are tabs on the inside of the cowling that has to be pushed down or the choke nob has to be unscrewed and a nut removed on the outside of the cowling and the cable removed. Belgium made motors are diffrent than others made and will be somewhat diffrent.
Hope this helps, Oldman570

OK, so the knob unscrews from the cable?

So the knob in fact does unscrew from the assembly, but it was jammed something fierce. Had to put it in a vice to hold it and wound up hurting it a bit with my pliers. Must have sorta frozen on over time.

Thanks for the help everyone!
