Choosing between Rochester or Holley

I'm about to replace the carburetor on my 97 3.0 Gs and I can not decide between the 2bbl holley or the 2bbl rochester. I just want a dependable carburetor that's fairly easy to tune. I'm 25 and have had little experience with carbs and am not the best at tuning them, I live in a generation with fuel injection. Lol but I do want the best performance and am not solely worried about fuel mileage. Thanks in advance.

What is the carb is on it Now,..??

Why not Rebuild what ya got,..??

Generally speakin' replacin' what's there, with another copy of the same, is Best,...

Because someone put a motocraft 2150 automotive carb on it before I bought it and I can't find the correct kit for it and I want a marine carb on it. I've tried to hunt the original one down but no luck.
And if I replaced whats there with another copy I would still wind up with a automotive carb and I don't believe that would be best.

Like Bondo said, original equipment is always best. Start here and follow links to your engine and the schematic will tell you your original equipment, likely a Holley.

To answer you question, Holley vs Rochester, I'd go with the Holley every day of the week but it's got to be a marine carb - for reasons of fuel bowl overflow routing, usage differences, load, etc. An automotive carb can have disasterous results on a boat. I suppose your Motorcraft 2150 could have been modified, but that's a 1980's Ford and AMC carb. Never heard of one being on a boat. I'd pull it and put it on Ebay - somebody rebuilding a Jeep (CJ, early YJ) with the inline 258 will snatch it up quickly.

As an aside, I've rebuilt several Motorcraft 2100 and 2150 carbs (they are great carbs), in fact I'm running one on my CJ7 jeep now. Easy to tune and rebuild.

the original carb on your engine is a holley 2300 2bbl 500 cfm - and i cannot say any bad word about this carb.

That's the website I also found fun times and I am getting the holley and I knew that the automotive carb is not acceptable and I want to put everything back oem. So thank you guys for the help I just wanted to get a second opinion from people that has had hands on experience.
