sooo aside from the boats shouldn't have carpet Jazz... I find that I need to buy some carpet for my cruiser... this will be snap in on top of the white gelcoat dash and floor in the cockpit ... color: Burgundy.... measure... 8' x13' should do it... ok done right... OH HECK NO... 18 oz 20 oz 22 oz 28 oz 32 oz .... etc ... rubber backing, no backing other backing? etc.... UGH!

I would prefer a really nice plush feeling carpet BUT it must be able to dry fairly well without being removed from the floor and that takes priority over being plush ... sound deadening is a plus as the engine hatches don't yet have any sound deadener on them..... I would rather pay more for double the life span than to have to do it twice as often..... I just spent half an hour looking at carpet on ebay and have decided that I don't have any idea what to look for.....

BTW there will be no fish blood or hooks flying around in this boat... This boat is for social uses. I do promise that my V-20 fisherman will NOT have carpet

32 oz is the density. That means it will wear better but not necessarily feel better do to a tighter construction. Also means it will hold more water but probably no real noticeable difference. I would go with the rubber backing to keep water from soaking through the carpet. Without the rubber it may also cause abrasive wear on what ever surface its on.

I manage the largest flooring store in Chicago.

since it will only be used for "social" purposes, i would concentrate on the "carpet burn" factor. there must be a rating for that????

My choice for marine carpet is www.snapincarpet.com. You can check their web site for examples of their work.

Contact them via phone (a person actually answers!!!) to see if they have your pattern in stock. In not, they can send you a template kit or you can make your own with clear plastic and a sharpie. Then pick the colors, weight, texture, knapp, embroidery, etc on the web site and send the pattern in. Most templates I have sent in are back in about 2-3 weeks. They will include the snaps with the returned carpet, but you will have to install them or have them installed (if you have it done by a shop, it's quick and pretty cheap).

Standard marine carpet has the black rubber backing on it and is very comfortable under foot. To clean it, I remove mine every 3-4 months and just spray some Resolve on it and hose it off. After 5 years, mine still looks fantastic.

Oh...in that case you can buy from me at cost. Look up Dorsett Aqua-Turf carpeting on line. That's what I sell. Shoot a PM and I'll give you the phone number. I'll order and have it drop shipped to you. I can send you colors, and samples.

BTW, You have an industrial binding machine and UV rated threads?

Go to the rug section of the flooring dept at Home Depot or Lowes and pick out what you like, bring it home and modify it (cut, bind, and snaps) and install it in your boat if it's just for social purposes.

sweet thx... will do

Mom has an old singer industrial sewing machine and I bought a couple big spools of good uv thread when we did canvas for my old carver.. I haven't got the binding thing completely figured out yet but If we can't handle it I have a local guy who treats me pretty good on my little nickle and dime stuff and he'd have no problem with me cutting, fitting, and installing snaps with him just binding.

Re: Choosing boat carpet... fireman?

hmm just looked ....If I'm looking at the right stuff it looks like standard lightweight bass boat stuff (same stuff they sell at bass pro?) anything plusher than that? Also it said it was designed for direct glue in installation?? What if any difference is there between carpet designed to be glued in and designed to be snapped in? is that just marketing BS?

I'm hoping to find a stiffer backing with some sort of rubber padding under it... any more ideas?

Seadek. Buy sheets and cut yourself in many colors, or provide them templates for custom. Check out the faux teak if you want to punch it up a bit. The self stick goes on easily and stays put so long as you clean surfaces properly. It is soft to barefeet (no rug burns), durable, provides decent grip, and can be hosed down. The only downside is it's pricey.

I'm prettysure you can buy direct uncut from them as well. In the worst case scenario, give them the dimensions and tell them you need to leave it unbound. They have the plusher carpet, the Berber line, and the thicker, sponge foam rubber backings.
